What is the meaning of Post UTME ?
Many candidates who just concluded writing jamb UTME became confuse as a mention of post UTME aka screening test.
Literally, Post UTME is short for Post Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination. In a simpler form it is an examination written by JAMB applicants just after the UTME before getting admission in a university/tertial institutions.
Post UTMEs are recognized admission screening examinations that various higher institutions in Nigeria conduct for students who apply for higher education admission in various institutions in Nigeria.
Thus, each University or institution organizes and conducts its own internal Post UTME but for any candidate to partake in this examination, the candidate must have applied to the institution and written a UTME (JAMB) examination with a minimum score according to the said institute.
Students who will gain admission must pass the post UTME before they can be admitted to any Nigerian Institution of their choice.
The UTME score is typically divided by 400 and multiplied by 60, representing its 60% contribution.
The Post-UTME score is generally out of 100. In the aggregate score calculation, this score is often divided by 2.5 to reflect a 40% contribution to the final aggregate.
Below is detailed breakdown on how it works:
- Post-UTME Score: usually out of 100.
- UTME Score: Out of 400.
- Aggregate Score Calculation:
- UTME Score (divided by 400) * 60
- Post-UTME Score (divided by 2.5)
- Example: If a candidate scores 200 in UTME and 60 in Post-UTME:
- UTME contribution: (200 / 400) * 60 = 30
- Post-UTME contribution: (60 / 2.5) = 24
- Total Aggregate Score = 30 + 24 = 54
